Part I — VEX IQ Fundamentals · Chapter 7

Outtake & Scoring

A flawless intake means nothing if the wrong mechanism drops it in the wrong place.

The outtake is how the game element leaves your robot and lands where it counts. A flawless intake means nothing if the wrong mechanism drops it in the wrong place, or too slowly to matter.

Before You Choose

Draft note

Same five-question checklist as intakes, for any game, before you touch a single mechanism idea. Visual only in the printed book so far.

Choosing Your Outtake Mechanism

Your checklist answers are what you plug into this tree. Route left to right, question to mechanism, not the other way around.

The Six Types

Each type trades off speed, precision, or simplicity. None of them give you all three.

Whichever outtake you pick, you are choosing which of these three to give up. Decide that on purpose.

What's Next

None of these six types run alone on a real robot. Every one of your builds combines an outtake with intake or transport into a single mechanism. Chapter 8 covers how and why, using Rapid Relay, Full Volume, Mix and Match, and Slapshot as the real examples.
