Part I — VEX IQ Fundamentals · Chapter 12
Organizing Your Team
Start generalist, let specialists emerge.
Most of our team did everything, drove, built, coded, whatever the moment needed. A few people specialized in one area and mostly stayed there.
Start generalist, let specialists emerge. Early season, everyone should be able to build, drive, and code at a basic level. That's what lets a team of any size get a robot running fast. Specialists show up once someone's clearly better at one thing than the rest of the team, not before.
A specialist isn't excused from the rest. Someone great at coding still helps on build night. Someone who's your best driver still knows how the notebook works. Specializing means you lead that area, not that you're the only one who touches it.
One-line takeaway
Most of the team should be able to do most of the job. Let specialists earn their lane instead of assigning it on day one.
